I never imagine that I will come here, even when I was in university, I thought it would only waste my time, actually there are some reason why I say like that, The first reason was that I started learning English when I was still in the class 3 elementary school until when I was in college, and my question is “what did I get all this time?” “Nothing” and the second reason was that I remembered my friend ever said to me:
“Helehhh Herr Herr it’s useless if you went to English Village, it just wasted your time”
And in my imagined “Maybe what he said was right”.
February , 2017 | I graduated in Islamic University of Indonesia, like most the people think after graduation, they are able to work in one of the big companies or working in the companies they want. Me too, after graduation, I hope to work in the big companies or at least I am able to work in the companies that I want. A little story when I was called by one of the companies that I had applied before for job interviews. And you know what happened after that? Interviewer said to me:
“Please, Let introduce yourself”
“Using English Ms?” I asked her
“Yes, of course”
After that I was just silent because I could not say anything :’(, and yeah finally, as I could guess before, I failed this interview, I was very disappointed in myself, even I was embarrassed to tell my parents. I realized that English was really important, especially for the people who had dreams of working in the big companies. And that was of one the reasons why I decided to study English.
Why did I choose to study English in English Village?
I know my ability, I am the type of person who needs more to practice, but, All this time, I just got about the theory without practice, perhaps you would understand but you would forget if you didn’t practice it. The simple logic is you are able to get example from a baby who has just been born, my question is:
“Are they taught to write or theory for the first time?” “Of course not”
A baby will be taught for the simple “word”, for the first time i’m sure a baby will not be able to repeat, they are only able to listen what others say, but, time by time, bit by bit, a baby will be able to repeat what others say. If the baby often gets simple words constantly, they will repeat without thinking because every day the people will invite a baby to conversation although a baby does not understand.
Back to why I choose English Village to study English, because in English Village I can practice with other people who have the same reasons, then, There are many English language course, so, I can choose and adjust what method is suitable for me to apply for learning English, because i think every people have the different method to study English. The next reason is I can study with native speaker, i mean if you have intention for learning English you are able to try conversation with native speaker, because in English Village you can find foreigners who usually become a tutors there. Oh yea, I will give you some information, when i was still young, i had a big dreams, and one of the big dreams is i want to go around the world. If you have a big dream like me, yeah it’s not funny if you go around the world but you can’t speak English, isn’t it?? Maybe, you can hire some tour guides who can accompany your journey or you can invite your friends who be able to speak English, but remember, your travel expenses will increase, Emmet perhaps this doesn’t matter if you are rich person, but for me it will be a problems (you know what i mean right? Wk wk :v ) and one more, if you can speak English and practice it to native speakers, of course it will make you proud of your abilities right?? :) Yeah to be honest i always grateful to God for that opportunity.
In addition, before i went to English Village, i felt really afraid because i could not say anything, in my imagination there all must used English, such as buying food, asking something to others, or something like that. But in fact it’s not as scary as i imagined. My suggest is never be afraid of the name of English Village, most people don’t feel confident because they haven’t been able to do anything, and most of them imagine that in English Village all must use English, such as when buying food, talking to other people, or something like that, but the fact is not So, believe me, it only applies in camp that are indeed obligatory to speak English, i mean the area must speak English. because there all also a lot of camps or boarding house that don’t require using English in camps or boarding house, actually you can speak Indonesia as much as you want if you have not been confident to speak English.
